This private hillside residence in Montecito was comprehensively transformed into an elegant yet informal family retreat—designed for weekends, extended summer stays, creative work, and memorable gatherings with family and friends.
Tower Design expanded the home by carefully excavating into the hillside to create two additional bedrooms and a spacious guest lounge. A concealed Murphy bed allows the room to accommodate overnight visitors while retaining its versatility as a comfortable gathering space. The result supports a full house with ease, without sacrificing privacy or the intimate character of the original residence.
The kitchen and primary bathroom were completely renovated with a fresh, contemporary perspective grounded in traditional Spanish and Santa Barbara–style architecture. Handmade tiles crafted by artisans in Santa Barbara and Ojai introduce subtle variation, regional authenticity, and a level of workmanship that gives the rooms enduring character.
A dedicated musician’s writing studio was conceived as a private creative sanctuary for composition and uninterrupted work. Tower Design also renovated the entire upper level, creating continuity among the home’s family, guest, and creative spaces.
With the exception of the dining room’s Paul Ferrante chandelier, Tower Design designed the decorative lighting throughout the residence. Expressive fixtures and imaginative textiles bring lightness and individuality to the interiors, while substantial Mediterranean furnishings provide warmth, structure, and a sense of permanence. The contrast feels collected and personal rather than overly coordinated or historically themed.
Although richly detailed, the home was never intended to function as a formal showplace. It was designed around the pleasures of family life—children moving freely between rooms, friends gathering for long weekends, music being written in privacy, and guests feeling entirely at home.
The completed residence embodies a relaxed expression of Montecito living: architecturally grounded, beautifully crafted, and deeply personal.
