Tower Design completed the extensive renovation of two landmark residences within Beaconsfield Terraces, an important collection of Chateauesque townhouses in Brookline, Massachusetts. Designed by Eugene R. Knapp and constructed in 1891 as Marguerite Terrace, these distinguished masonry buildings represent an exceptional chapter in Greater Boston’s architectural history.
The project required a careful balance of preservation, modernization, and discretion. Each townhouse was comprehensively reconfigured to meet the expectations of contemporary estate living while retaining the scale, craftsmanship, and architectural authority of the original residences.
Soaring ceilings, intricate millwork, decorative moldings, and multiple fireplaces were preserved and restored as defining elements of the interiors. Within this historic framework, Tower Design introduced expansive open-plan living areas, elegant eat-in kitchens with substantial marble islands, generous family rooms, private fitness spaces, and discreet in-residence elevators.
The extensive residential program included more than eight bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and two powder rooms, providing exceptional flexibility for family, guests, household staff, and entertaining. Fine materials, bespoke details, and carefully integrated modern amenities allow the homes to function effortlessly without compromising their historic integrity.
Tower Design also furnished and completed one of the residences for a celebrated professional athlete. The project was approached with the privacy, personal attention, and exacting standards required when designing for a prominent client. Rather than imposing a predetermined aesthetic, the interiors were shaped around the owner’s lifestyle, preferences, and vision for the property.
The completed residences feel neither preserved in time nor disconnected from their past. They embody a more nuanced expression of luxury: architectural provenance, exceptional craftsmanship, modern comfort, and a deeply personalized sense of home.
