Located just blocks from the Town Lift in the heart of historic downtown Park City, this landmark residence was transformed from a modest registry home into a distinctive three-level mountain retreat.
The renovation required complex architectural planning and a highly considered approach to preservation. The original house was carefully elevated to allow for an entirely new lower level containing two bedrooms, a bathroom, laundry facilities, an intimate sitting area, a dedicated ski entrance, and direct access to a private hot-tub deck.
A new upper story was also introduced within the home’s original roofline. This level became a secluded primary suite with a bedroom, private sitting room, and generously appointed bathroom. By respecting the established silhouette of the house, the expansion added substantial living space without diminishing the historic character of the streetscape.
Original materials were preserved and repurposed wherever possible. A substantial beam from the home’s early foundation was transformed into the fireplace mantel, giving an important architectural remnant a new role at the center of the residence. Every exterior alteration and historic component of the renovation received approval from Park City’s architectural review authorities.
The interiors were shaped around the owner’s love of saturated red and expressive primary color. Tower Design established a sophisticated foundation of modern neutrals, layered grays, and nuanced blues, allowing vivid accents to animate the rooms without overwhelming the historic architecture. Warm earth-toned materials and finishes bring depth and visual continuity to the bathrooms and principal living spaces.
Art was conceived as part of the interiors rather than introduced as a final decorative layer. Tower Design created the majority of the paintings throughout the home, giving the residence an original visual language closely connected to its palette and personality.
