For this distinguished Hillsborough residence, Tower Design embraced the expressive richness of Colonial design while introducing contemporary art and sculptural furnishings to create an interior that feels cultivated, original, and entirely personal.
Three significant art acquisitions became the foundation for the home’s color palette and interior compositions. Rather than treating the collection as a final decorative layer, Tower Design used the artwork to establish relationships among color, scale, furnishings, and architecture throughout the residence.
Family heirlooms—including the dining table, chairs, sideboard, and other important antiques—were thoughtfully integrated with newly sourced period pieces. These elements provide history and continuity, while clean-lined contemporary furnishings and boldly sculptural tables bring an unexpected modern energy to the traditional rooms.
In the dining room, a luminous gold silk wallcovering reflects light with subtle movement, creating an elegant setting for the family’s inherited furnishings and collected objects. A substantial carpet grounds the room, while original art and carefully selected antiques add depth, provenance, and visual distinction.
Playful, undulating cocktail and occasional tables offer a contemporary interpretation of Queen Anne curves. Their expressive forms keep the historic references from feeling overly formal, creating a nuanced dialogue between tradition and modern design.
Elsewhere, an underused sleeping porch was transformed into an intimate reading room—a quiet, beautifully appointed retreat that gives new purpose to one of the home’s most charming architectural spaces.
