1930’S MARINA RENOVATION

Residential | San Francisco, CA Marina Gut and Remodel

The lifestyle of 1930’s San Francisco Marina meant that multiple generations lived under the same roof in myriad small rooms. We gutted the entire interior of this home and added industrial skylights, a ground floor family room, large master bath and bedroom and hidden outdoor spaces. A winding metal staircase leads to a magical sleeping loft, and delightful corners of privacy coexist in a truly three floor open concept.

The owner is highly aware of environmental impact of resources. Our floors are recycled wood, and much of the furniture is vintage and/or repurposed.  We used recycled glass tiles for the baths and remained conscious of repurposing as much as possible.

Honoring our client’s Buddhist practice, we mixed antique Asian furnishings with authentic Mid-Century modern chairs, tables and sustainably sourced custom designed rugs, along with family heirlooms and treasures from travels. Our goal was to combine the old with new and unique with a powerfully modern yet cozy effect.
